Intro
Little boy T.S. Spivet is born on a remote ranch in Montana. He has a brilliant mind, a passion for cartography and scientific diagrams, and invents a perpetual motion machine when he is only ten years old. His father is a cowboy fanatic who collects everything about cowboys in the west; his mother, a PhD in biology, devotes herself to studying insects; while his elder sister is the most ordinary normal person, who often worries a lot for living in this house full of strange people. T.S. originally has a fraternal twin brother, Leighton, who dies in an accident last year. One day, T.S. receives a call from the Smithsonian Institution informing him that he has been awarded the world science prize Baird Prize, and inviting him to make a speak in Washington. Thereupon, this ten-year-old science whiz T.S. sneaks onto a freight train and embarks alone on a fantastic journey across America.
