Intro
The posthumous son, David Copperfield, grows up under the care of his mother, Clara, and the maid, Peggotty. Before long, however, his mother remarries, and his stepfather is fierce and greedy. Before they are married, David is sent to Peggotty's brother Peggotty's house. Peggotty is an honest fisherman, who has adopted a pair of orphans to live with him. David, who cares much for his mother, returns to his stepfather's house, but is mistreated by his stepfather, so his life is miserable. After much difficulty he find his maternal aunt Miss Betsey. His kind-hearted maternal aunt Bessie takes him in, but his unhappy fate has just begun. Because of her mother's weak and timid character, he is abused by his stepfather in childhood and leads a miserable life. When his mother dies suddenly of illness, he goes through many hardships, is forced to join the society, works hard, suffers the cold words of others. However, he cuts through all the difficulties, with indomitable spirit of struggle, finally obtains fame and fortune, and gets a satisfactory ending in both career and life.
